NORRIS ARM: On The Map...
Town Crest

CANADA

The Town of Norris Arm is located on the Island of Newfoundland, the easternmost province in Canada. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador is Canada's newest and is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 1999. Though a large number of the settlements on the Island are dependant upon the returns of the fishing industry, such is not the case with Norris Arm.

NEWFOUNDLAND

Norris Arm is actually an insular settlement on the northeastern portion of Newfoundland surrounded by a rich boreal forest and boasting a spectacular position at the mouth of the great Exploit's River. It is this environment that first sustained the Beothuck and has provided for our community throughout the years. The logging industry has been the primary source of employment for many individuals in the area, however in recent years, this has somewhat declined.

CENTRAL NEWFOUNDLAND: NORRIS ARM

Therefore, despite having access to the Atlantic via the Bay of Exploits and Notre Dame Bay, our community's character has been most heavily influenced by our geographical positioning toward the interior of the province. Our community is situated at the end of the Exploits River drainage basin. It takes on somewhat of a linear appearance as it stretches along the shoreline. Cliffs and elevated forested areas shelter the town to the rear providing the natural backdrop appreciated by its inhabitants.
